THE GIRLS
EDITH GROSMAN #1970
Just 17 years old when she was deported to Auschwitz with her sister, Leah. Edith survived 3 years in Auschwitz. Her sister did not.
Edith was one of a few living survivors of the first transport and her story serves as the centerpiece to this film and book. Her resilient spirit and courage in facing this history is a testament to young women and old women alike.
She was married to the Oscar Award winning screenwriter, Ladislav Grosman.
JUDITH MITTELMAN#1800
was 16 when she was deported with Edith. On the transport were girls who had known each other the entire lives, but only a few would survive the three years ahead of them
Judith is one of four remaining survivors of the first transport. She is 98 years old.
ADELA #UNKNOWN
18-year-old Adela Gross was known for her magnificent red hair, which tumbled down her back like a lion’s mane. When Adela disappeared into the jaws of Auschwitz. Seventy years later, her family discovered what had happened to her thanks to the survivor Rena Kornreich, #1716. Adela’s story was first written in Rena’s Promise and is now a pivotal sequence in our film.
